It\u2019s the increasing popularity of sustainable fashion as shoppers, once only focused on fast fashion and the latest looks, instead hunt out more sustainable clothing options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sustainable fashion might be about using sustainable materials, improving recyclability, encouraging re-use, renting or reselling. Whatever guise it falls under it\u2019s increasingly big business.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voguebusiness.com\/sustainability\/degrowth-the-future-that-fashion-has-been-looking-for\"> Vogue<\/a> calls it \u201ca fashion industry freed of the trend cycle\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it\u2019s even making the catwalks, with sustainable fashion appearing prominently at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/news\/pr_newswire\/pr_newswire_entertainment\/sustainable-fashion-designer-influencer-make-bold-statement-against-fast-fashion-at-new-york-fashion-week\/article_f7384549-691e-5181-87de-8ac5c33bff4a.html\"> New York Fashion Week<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just under<a href=\"https:\/\/www.retailtimes.co.uk\/younger-consumers-most-likely-to-change-their-lifestyle-in-response-to-climate-concerns-kantar-sustainability-study-finds\/\"> one in 3<\/a> (29%) of global consumers have shopping behaviors influenced by climate and social issues, according to Kantar\u2019s 2022 Sustainability Sector Index. This is even higher in the Americas where a third (33%) are active in this area. Younger consumers (18-34) are particularly interested in the trend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the need is especially high in clothing, with the fashion industry responsible for up to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imperial.ac.uk\/stories\/fashion-forward\/\"> 8% of greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>, much of it from the overproduction of fast fashion items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As consumer demand begins to build as awareness of the need to be more environmentally friendly grows, fashion retailers are responding in their droves to throw off the throwaway fashion label and adopt a more sustainable one instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.co.uk\/news-releases\/heiq-aeoniq-game-changing-decarbonizing-yarn-endorsed-by-hugo-boss-and-the-lycra-company-878906583.html\">Hugo Boss<\/a> announced its latest sustainable partnership in February when it revealed it was working with yarn developer HeiQ AeoniQ as part of its strategy to increase the use of sustainable materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just a trend for high-end fashion brands and their customers but mall brands too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spanish fashion giant Mango launched its first capsule collection of<a href=\"https:\/\/press.mango.com\/en\/mango-continues-its-commitment-to-sustainability-and-launches-the-second-mango-committed-commission_26394#:~:text=MANGO%E2%80%99s%20goal%20is%20that%2050%25%20of%20the%20cotton,collection%20as%20part%20of%20the%20Take%20Action%20programme.\"> sustainable fashion<\/a> in 2016 under the Mango Committed label. By 2021<a href=\"https:\/\/press.mango.com\/en\/mango-brings-forward-its-sustainable-targets-and-doubles-the-percentage-of-committed-garments_136232\"> 80% of its range<\/a> came under the label, up from 45% the year before. It\u2019s aiming that all its designs will have the Committed label this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The longevity of fashion is also being highlighted in an industry once guilty of delighting in the quick turnaround of trends and looks. Now it\u2019s more fashionable to reuse than throw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fashion designer<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vogue.co.uk\/fashion\/gallery\/miu-miu-upcycled-collection\"> Miu<\/a> Miu, for example, has an upcycled range, while FarFetch\u2019s Second Life service, which launched in Europe in 2019 and the<a href=\"https:\/\/aboutfarfetch.com\/news\/press-releases\/farfetch-launches-handbag-resale-service-farfetch-second-life-in-the-us\/\"> US<\/a> in 2020, allows customers to sell unwanted luxury bags to earn credit for their FarFetch account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, with sustainable fashion in fashion what does that mean for the eco-conscious shopper eager to do their bit when making their clothing purchasing decisions online?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many brands are pushing their sustainability messaging hard, for other brands discoverability can be a little more challenging as they look to gauge just how interested in sustainability their customers are, and, more importantly, their willingness to pay for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social Proof Messaging can help surface popular sustainable options to consumers, by tagging the sustainable attributes of products and using that in your social proof messaging strategy. So a fashion retailer can share messages such as \u201c40 people bought this jacket made with recyclable fibers\u201d, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such messaging serves two purposes. Firstly it highlights sustainable products that may pique the interest of your consumer and secondly it reinforces the notion that the shopper, if they choose the sustainable clothing option, will be amongst a growing band of eco-conscious consumers eager to invest in such products. It shows that they are making a popular choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the discovery element enabled by Social Proof Messaging is vital since many consumers say they would buy more sustainable products if
